Support the Arts, Support the Needy

This Saturday Store 86 on Shopper’s Lane in Covina, CA will host their 2nd Annual Hip Hop for Humanity Food Drive from 10am- 6pm presented by Temple of Teno Music and BSIDESHOW.NET. This food drive will support the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. This food drive fills a void that Covina and the surrounding areas need. There has not been a fully operational food bank serving this community since 2004 and it was located just down the way from Saturday’s food drive.

The West Covina Community Food Bank was located across the street from the Eastland Shopping Center. The food bank received donations from local markets, churches and made a weekly trip to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. In place of the food bank and many other businesses, a car dealership was built in 2004 and remains there to this day. Unfortunately for the food bank, since they were not required to pay property taxes, and the other businesses on the lot they lost out to a bid by the dealership.

Since then, food drives like Hip Hop for Humanity are important to supply the surrounding churches and other pantries that fill this gap. Also, this food drive has a lot of great entertainment and giveaways planned in exchange for your canned food donations. There are events planned throughout the day so bring some cans and join the festivities.
